Emotions
The Master answers...
Swamiji, my sick mind always gets tempted by emotions. What should I do?
The Master: You are right. The mind is always sick. Hegel has said that mind is a disease. The whole of the spiritual science is to cure that disease and the only medicine is to dissolve that disease, that is, the mind. Temptation in itself is not bad; it simply means that you are sensitive to certain things, thus are healthy in this regard. However, if you are unconscious or conditioned, it can harm you in many ways. Emotion is a very powerful source of energy. You can either transform it into something higher and subtler like love, compassion and poetry, or get carried away by it. Without going through temptation, how can you become a master?
At times, it is good to go into your temptations without however harming others or your own self. I mean, see to it that you are not suppressing certain natural instincts. However, if you wish to become spiritual, then you will have to become more watchful of your emotions. Do not reject or fight them. Simply accept and observe them with detachment. Nature always creates situations to bring up your emotions and moods. It is an opportunity to transform them through meditation in order to go higher on the ladder of evolution. They should not be taken negatively.
